Oral Rehabilitation for Periodontal Patients
The ideal rehabilitative solution needs to be chosen if the patient has already suffered from a severe periodontal disease. This was always a dilemma in dentistry. The only periodontal treatment does not satisfactorly restore functionaility and aesthetics to an individual.
In the '70s and '80s, the treatment of these patients was commonly done through periodontal prosthesis. This type of mechanism was intended to stabalize dental movement, uniting elements from one side to another with fixed bridges.
Thus, the choice of restorative treatment included long sessions at a very high cost in which all the teeth of the arch were corrected, making the treatment safer.
BRANEMARK ET, the forerunner of today's implants has brought the advent of implants to dentistry, allowing these patients to be seen in a new way. The recommendation for the extraction of all the teeth in the mouth has become even more frequent with the possibility of immediate provision.
It should be kept in mind that the transition from one state or partially serrated toothed to a state of edentulism is very traumatic and should be done cautiously. Often this choice is valid and necessary. However there is much discussion regarding the radical treatment of extracting the entire mouth of teeth, condeming various teeth that are still viable should be considered a crime within the profession.
Of course, this choice is not easy for the patient and involves many psychological issues. But the fact is that the implants have become not only a new option, but the first choice in dentistry.
