What is Dental Restoration?

Dental restoration is the general name given for several dental procedures and dental techniques intended to restore teeth. The tooth might be damaged or decayed and the goal of dental restorationis to restore the tooth to its original or improved shape, appearance and function. When teeth are damaged and restored by using metal or any other tooth colored materials, the procedure is called dental restoration. There are many possible benefits that you can get from tooth restoration.

One is the health advantage like damaged or missing teeth being replaced to avoid protruding out with the appearance of crooked teeth, and to strengthen the affected teeth to avoid tooth erosion. Another benefit is the esthetic advantage that means the affected tooth or teeth are replaced with ones that look more natural and healthier. Whatever kind of dental restoration that is required for anyone will be determined by the dentist.

When undergoing the dental resoration procedure, there are several factors to be considered, for example, like health, esthetics and how much would the procedure costs. The solution it offers is unique to each and everyone.

When is Dental Restoration necessary?

A tooth that is damaged by injury or decay is exposed to infection. Dental restoration can fill parts that are exposed or replace damaged teeth with a new crown.

Dental Restoration is necessary because it can prevent the loss of a tooth, removing decay before it spreads further.

A few hours after the dental restoration treatment, the patient can go back to their normal eating and chewing habits. Facial and tooth appearance should also be improved with dental restoration.

What techniques are available for Dental Restoration?

There are several techniques available to restore teeth. Most of them were named according to the material used.

  • - Filling techniques are to close an opening on a tooth usually caused by tooth decay.
  • - Veneers are thin porcelain capes which are bonded to the original teeth for improved appearance.
  • - Replacement Crowns are used in case the original teeth are damaged and can not be filled any longer.

There are four different fillings techniques and materials used to restore teeth, which are:

  • - Amalgams or silver fillings
  • - Bonding or white fillings
  • - Inlays
  • - Onlays

There are also two other techniques to restore teeth, which are:

  • - Replacement Crowns
  • - Porcelain Veneers
